Muddle
Shopkeeper · The Wobble Shop
Muddle runs The Wobble Shop, a tiny general store where pencils, bandages, string, cookies and peculiar things all find their way onto the shelves.
Warm, observant and rather difficult to surprise, Muddle usually has a notebook close to hand. People sometimes leave with something they did not know they needed. The exact thing they came in for can be oddly hard to find.

Behind the counter
A few things about Muddle
The notebook
Its pages are full of tiny doodles: hearts, lanterns and things spotted on the shelves. Muddle says doodling helps him “think sideways”.
A remarkable knack
He can often identify a shop object by touch alone. The peculiar ones sometimes make him pause.
The satchel lantern
It comes in handy when something rolls under the counter or hides at the back of a shelf.
Moving shelves
Muddle rearranges the shelves now and then. Whether that explains why nobody can find the very thing they came for is another matter.
Buttons with stories
He keeps a jar of ordinary buttons under the counter. He suspects each one has been somewhere interesting.
Little conversations
Sometimes he murmurs to the objects: “Stay there, please,” or “You look happier on this shelf.”
Alphabetical order
He once tried to organize the whole shop alphabetically. He got as far as “Biscuits”.
The unlabeled drawer
His favorite customers ask what's in it. Muddle never gives quite the same answer twice.
Old patches
His satchel has been patched many times, with help from neighbors around Collyvale.
Emergency cookies
He says they are for customers. Nobody is entirely convinced.
