Mr. Pottle's Worry Package

Some worries feel lighter when we share them. This gentle activity gives children a place to draw or write something they are carrying and think about who could help.

Who it's for: Children aged 4-7 who have a worry, a wobble or a big thought they may find hard to put into words.

There is no right or wrong way to use it. A child can draw, write, point, talk - or leave a section blank.

How Mr. Pottle's Worry Package works

Mr. Pottle carries all sorts of things in his Manyfold Pouch. Here, he helps children imagine that a worry can be shared rather than carried alone.

1

Something I'm carrying

A large space to draw or write the worry, with plenty of room for children who prefer pictures to words.

2

How big does it feel?

Children can choose small, medium, very big or “I'm not sure.” The aim is noticing the feeling, not measuring it perfectly.

3

When does it visit?

Simple choices include morning, bedtime, school, being alone or somewhere else.

4

Who could help carry it?

A parent or caregiver, teacher, friend or another trusted person can be chosen as someone to talk to.

For grown-ups

Try letting the child lead. You might ask, “Would you like to tell me about this bit?” rather than working through every box. If they do share a worry, listening calmly and helping them identify a trusted grown-up can matter more than finding an immediate solution.

Mr. Pottle's message: “You don't have to carry every worry by yourself.”
