Around Collyvale

Miss Harper

Teacher · Room 1B, Collyvale Primary School

Miss Harper teaches in Room 1B. In Ollie’s first school story, she is there among the books, paints and busy tables when he comes through the classroom door.

Her copper curls, round glasses, flowered dress and daisy lanyard make her easy to spot. She knows that a classroom can be noisy, surprising and full of wonderful questions—all before the first lesson is over.

Take a look around Room 1B or find the school on the Collyvale map.

A few things about Miss Harper

  1. Easy to spot

Look for the copper curls, the round glasses and a blue lanyard dotted with daisies. Her cardigan has flowers too.

  2. The blue door

She teaches in Room 1B, the classroom behind the bright blue door. There is usually something interesting to see before you reach a chair.

  3. The Loose Parts box

It holds pinecones, tubes and other bits that could become almost anything. Miss Harper likes hearing what the children think they might make.

  4. Too many legs?

A little creature lives in the classroom tank. Miss Harper has heard several different guesses about how many legs it has.

  5. A question for the class

When one child suggests a dinosaur, she is interested to hear what the others might be thinking.

  6. Stars overhead

Colorful stars hang across Room 1B. Even when the tables are busy, the stars stay neatly in a row.

  7. The bell has its own ideas

It has a way of ringing just when everyone is in the middle of something. Miss Harper knows where to pick up again afterward.

  8. One more thing to make

Paints, blocks, books and cardboard can all begin a story. Miss Harper is curious to see what Room 1B will try next.
